Until one Sunday, after years of conversation, repeated attempts to better compliment each other, counseling and soul searching — my husband and I looked at each other with tears in our eyes. Walking away from life as I knew it was never something I’d envisioned. I expected to feel regret and to build stronger boundaries, but instead I found my heart more open than it had ever been. And shockingly, my divorce, more than my marriage, taught me about love....

While that entire thought process sounds logical, it can be deeply painful to live in such a reality. Coping with the long-range effects of such a violation can be a lifelong quest, but help comes in many forms. We spoke with trauma psychologist Remi Coker, Ph.D., and licensed therapist Jessica Conquest, LMFT, about what exactly betrayal trauma is, when it can develop, how it relates to other kinds of trauma, and methods to recover and heal....

According to certified sex therapist Holly Richmond, Ph.D., LMFT, CST, cuffing can be as simple as consistently hooking up with someone you know isn’t going to be a long-term partner, sometimes even “going below what your typical standards might be in the summer.” Not to say a “cuff” can never turn into something long-term, but typically, it doesn’t look like your usual committed relationship. Some research suggests people feel more lonely when the weather is cold1 in general, and interestingly enough, being cold makes people more interested in romantic movies....

Eloping has almost become an umbrella term, as it could still describe a “runaway” situation between two lovers who want to get married, but it can also be a small destination wedding, a courthouse wedding, or even a spur-of-the-moment wedding. People who elope typically have 20 guests or fewer at their wedding ceremony, if they have any at all, compared to the traditional wedding that may have anywhere from 100 to 300+ guests....

That said, a lack of interest in sex doesn’t necessarily mean that a guy doesn’t want to date you. Some people prefer to take their time and wait until things are more serious before having sex with someone, and some people are simply not as interested in sex as they are in other aspects of getting to know a new partner. If you’re not sure where your guy stands, it’s best to just ask him about it, ideally in a nonsexual setting....

As psychologist and dream expert Rubin Naiman, Ph.D., previously explained to mbg. “Dream interpretation is about decoding the dream. It enlightens us and expands our awareness psychologically, [offering an] expansion of consciousness.” The key, he says, is to feel into the emotions the dream evokes in you, identifying more about the emotional experience as opposed to the literal visuals in the dream. “We need to learn the dream language; we don’t always have to translate it into waking,” Naiman adds....
